The Story Behind Grumpy O.G.
Why I Founded Grumpy O.G.
Finding purpose through pressure, disappointment, isolation and the freedom of creating something meaningful.

There was a period in my life when everything became quiet.
I got sick, stepped away from the world and spent a great deal of time wondering why so few of the people I considered friends or family appeared concerned about my disappearance. I had always believed certain relationships were built on loyalty, history and unconditional love. But when my circumstances changed, so did the way people treated me.
Before that chapter, I had the house, the recording studios, the gatherings, the women, the alcohol and the environment that attracted people. I was useful. I had something others wanted access to.
Then those things were gone.
As I struggled physically, mentally and financially, I began seeing people I once worked with in the studio building relationships with individuals they knew I did not associate with. At first, it felt like another betrayal. Eventually, however, I understood what I was actually witnessing.
“It was not always friendship. Sometimes, it was value.”
When I no longer had the house, the studios or the lifestyle, I was no longer valuable to certain people. That realization was painful, but it also forced me to wake up. I learned that some people do not love you for who you are. They love the comfort, access, opportunity or entertainment connected to you.
When those benefits disappear, they sometimes disappear too.
Lesson One
Start a Company and Watch What Happens
People often say that difficult times reveal your true friends. I would add something else:
Start a company.
Build something from nothing. Put your name, imagination, money and reputation behind an idea. Then watch who supports you, who ignores you and who suddenly becomes uncomfortable with your ambition.
To this day, only one person from the large circle of people I once knew has purchased a Grumpy O.G. T-shirt—my cousin.
One person.
That truth could have destroyed my motivation. There were moments when it nearly did. I have struggled, felt alone, been afraid and questioned whether I was capable of carrying the weight of everything happening around me. This has been one of the most difficult periods of my life.
There were days filled with uncertainty. Days when anxiety made ordinary responsibilities feel overwhelming. Days when I worried about the future, my family and whether the work I was doing would ever become what I envisioned.
But I continued.
Not because the journey was easy, and not because people were standing behind me applauding. I continued because Grumpy O.G. became more than a clothing company.
It became a reason to keep moving.
The Foundation
The Meaning Behind Grumpy O.G.
Grumpy O.G. Clothing was born from pressure, disappointment, isolation and the need to rebuild with purpose.
My children, my person and this brand have been the things keeping my head above water. They remind me that my life still has meaning beyond the people who walked away. They remind me that I am still capable of creating something valuable, even during seasons when I do not feel valued by others.
That is why the brand carries emotional weight.
Grumpy O.G. Clothing is not simply a collection of graphic T-shirts, hoodies and streetwear designs. It represents the process of learning who you are when the noise disappears. It represents being underestimated, abandoned or overlooked—and deciding to create anyway.
Every design begins with an emotion, memory, lesson or pressure point.
Some designs reflect loyalty. Others reflect betrayal, survival, discipline, ambition or the determination to rebuild. Each piece is created to carry a message without requiring the person wearing it to explain everything they have experienced.

Why I Love Designing
Designing gives my mind somewhere productive to go.
When I am creating, the stress becomes quieter. The anxiety loosens its grip. For a while, I stop thinking about how cruel, transactional or disappointing the world can be.
I become absorbed in typography, composition, color, symbolism and storytelling. I think about how a design will feel on a shirt, how the artwork will move with the person wearing it and what emotion it will communicate before anyone reads a single word.
Creation gives me control over something beautiful when other parts of life feel uncertain.
A blank canvas does not judge me. It does not abandon me. It simply waits for an idea to become real.
That is what I love most about graphic design and independent streetwear. Something that begins as pain, frustration or a private thought can become wearable art. It can become a Sacramento streetwear design, a powerful graphic tee or a message that reaches someone who has experienced the same kind of pressure.
Designing allows me to transform what hurt me into something with structure, purpose and value.
Moving Forward
Building Without Applause
One of the hardest lessons I have learned is that support does not always come from the people you expect.
Sometimes strangers will believe in your work before relatives do. Customers who have never met you may recognize the meaning in a design while people who have known you for years refuse to acknowledge what you are building.
That can be difficult to accept, but it can also be freeing.
I no longer believe I need permission, applause or approval to continue. Grumpy O.G. does not exist because a crowd encouraged me to start. It exists because I needed to prove to myself that disappointment did not have the authority to end my story.
I am still building. I am still learning. I am still fighting through fear, financial pressure and uncertainty. This story does not have a perfect ending yet.
But it has movement.
Every design completed, every product released and every customer who chooses to support this independent clothing brand becomes part of that movement.
Grumpy O.G. was created during one of the lowest periods of my life, but I do not believe it was created to remain there.
This is only the beginning.
To be continued.
